Meet Dr. John Christensen
Dr. John Christensen, DMDGeneral Dentist | Metral Dental, Nanaimo
Dr. John Christensen has been providing dental care for over 35 years, bringing extensive clinical experience and a passion for restorative dentistry to his patients at Metral Dental in Nanaimo, BC.
Dr. Christensen combines time-tested techniques with modern dental technology to deliver high-quality, individualized care. He believes in taking the time to understand each patient’s needs, explain their treatment options, and help them make informed decisions about their oral health.
Education & Professional Experience
Dr. Christensen graduated from the University of British Columbia (UBC) in 1990 with a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree. He joined Metral Dental in Nanaimo in 2018.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Christensen has continued to expand his knowledge and clinical skills through professional development and advanced training. His experience encompasses a broad range of general dental services, including preventive care, restorative dentistry, dental implants, crowns, bridges, root canal treatment, and cosmetic dentistry.
Dr. Christensen has completed extensive continuing education in dental implantology, including training in surgical techniques, 3D digital imaging, and precise implant placement. He performs both the surgical placement and final restoration of implants at Metral Dental, allowing patients to receive comprehensive implant treatment in one location.
A Commitment to the Art of Dentistry
Dr. Christensen has a particular appreciation for the precision, craftsmanship, and artistry involved in restorative dentistry.
He serves as president of the Vancouver Walter K. Sproule Gold Foil Study Club, a professional organization dedicated to the study and practice of gold foil restorations.
His longstanding involvement in professional study clubs reflects his dedication to continuing education, meticulous technique, and preserving traditional restorative skills within modern dentistry. Gold foil restorations require exceptional precision and are a specialized technique practised by relatively few dentists today.
His Approach to Patient Care
Known for his down-to-earth manner and straight forward communication style, Dr. Christensen enjoys getting to know his patients and building lasting relationships.
He believes that a little humour and friendly conversation can go a long way toward making dental visits more enjoyable. He takes the time to answer questions, explain treatment options, and ensure patients feel informed about their care.
Whether providing routine preventative care or more complex restorative treatment, his focus is on helping patients achieve and maintain good oral health for years to come.
Outside the Dental Office
When he’s not practising dentistry, Dr. Christensen enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters. Together, they enjoy skiing, snowboarding, sailing, and exploring Vancouver Island.
An avid endurance athlete, he has competed in Ironman triathlons, marathons and other challenging athletic events over the years.
His love of outdoor adventure and active living keeps him busy when he’s away from the dental office.
